Cowboy Jamboree Press
good grit lit.
Cowboy Jamboree Press is proud to present its series of anthologies inspired, influenced and incited by our country and folk musical heroes. The writing in I Feel Just Like a Dogwood Tree is incited by the Juarez creative suite by Terry Allen. Juarez is a pioneering alt-country album and one of the most compelling concept albums ever made, telling "a simple story" of two couples, the leads up their violent clash in a travel trailer in the mountains of Cortez, Colorado and a high speed getaway attempt by them still living. Terry Allen’s Juarez doesn't stop there. It has been an ongoing multimedia project composed by Allen over the last fifty-plus years. It includes the music, a radio play, a never produced musical theatre script written with David Byrne, an unproduced screenplay, a number of sketches, illustrations, prints and paintings, and several installation pieces.
We asked for writing and art inspired by any part of Allen's magnum opus that went in any direction the maker desired. Herein are a dozen writers and artists that create an anthological soundtrack of personal essays, verse, stories and sketches as vivid and cool as Juarez itself.
