Friday Night Ride to Mary’s, Naturally
by Christopher Stevenson
Author's Note: I watched all the Eagle Pennell I could I get my hands on. Eagle Pennell captured a changing Texas. So, for me, I wanted to explore the changes. Mary’s Naturally was a staple in the Montrose neighborhood of Houston, especially among drag queens, leather daddies, and the gay biker scene in the 1970s. For years, the bar was known for the choppers lined out front of the establishment. Until it’s very last day, the bar had motorcycle hanging from its ceiling. Mary’s Naturally closed in December 2002.
